Leonardtown Home Invasion Results in Two Arrests

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 5, 2007) - Yesterday, at approximately 5:30 a.m., two armed men entered a Leonardtown home and demanded cash and marijuana from one of the residents. One shot was fired in the process and the two intruders left with approximately $300 in drugs. Detectives located and arrested the two men later that day at approximately 2 p.m.

According to police, the men entered the residence on Medley's Neck Road in Leonardtown through an unsecured door. Once inside, the men kicked several bedroom doors in and pointed a handgun at the occupants of the rooms demanding the whereabouts of a 25 year-old male. Upon locating the male, the men demanded marijuana and money from him. A struggle ensued and a shot was fired. The male victim gave the suspects approximately $300 in marijuana and they fled the residence.

The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) assumed the investigation. They located and arrested Trey D. Barnes, 20, with no fixed address, and Derrick R. Medley, 22, of Great Mills, at approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4.

Both men were charged with 4 counts of 1st Degree Assault, 4 counts of 1st Degree Burglary, Armed Robbery, and Malicious Destruction of Property. Barnes was also charged with Reckless Endangerment for firing the gun.

Barnes and Medley are currently incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

The unnamed 25 year-old male victim was not charged for possession of illegal drugs. Police say they will review the case with the State's attorney to determine if any additional charges will be placed.
