Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department yesterday released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: On June 16 at 2:16 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to an intrusion alarm at Lanham Cycle and Turf located at 10776 Demarr Road in White Plains. Upon arrival, officers discovered suspect(s) shattered a window, entered the building and stole approximately $7,000 worth of equipment including seven or eight Husqvarna chainsaws, a Briggs and Stratton engine, three or four Shindaiwa trimmers and a Shindaiwa backpack blower. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but did not locate the suspects. PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: On June 16 at 1:50 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the report of juveniles hiding in the bushes off of St. Charles Parkway near Northgate Place in Waldorf and throwing rocks at vehicles traveling on the parkway. They damaged the windshield of a 2004 Jeep and shattered the passenger rear window of a 2005 Dodge Caravan. Prior to the officers’ arrival, a citizen apprehended the juveniles. The juveniles, ages 9, 11 and 12, were charged with destruction of property and released to their parents. Officer J. Marti investigated.

THEFT: On June 14 at 8:28 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the DSW Shoes located at 3017 Market Place in Waldorf for the report of a theft. While officers were en route to the store, a lookout was given for a silver Ford Focus bearing Maryland license plates 6CTM48. Officers observed the vehicle turning north onto Crain Highway from Route 228. The suspect vehicle ran a red light and officers attempted to stop it but the driver continued north into Prince George’s County. Officers ended their pursuit shortly thereafter. The suspect was described as a black male wearing brown clothes. ASSAULT: On June 13 at 6:18 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 40 block of Meadow Lane in Waldorf for the report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 26-year-old Waldorf man, in front of the residence with numerous injuries. Investigation revealed the victim arrived home and was approached by five people he had been in a dispute with. He started to run into the residence but they pushed him into some bushes and struck him with a wooden bat, a wrench and their fists. Officers located one of the accused was located in the area and found the other four at a residence on Tanglewood Drive. Leroy Christopher Lyles, 21, Anthony Jermaine Lyles, 19, Jerome Anthony Epps, 24, and Doris Theresa Cole, 45, all of Waldorf, were charged with first- and second-degree assault. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. A juvenile boy was also involved in the incident and he was charged with assault and released to his guardian. Officer J. Long investigated.

PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: Sometime between 4:30 p.m. June 8 and 7 a.m. June 11, suspects shattered all the windows on five pieces of construction equipment at the construction site located on Middletown Road near McDaniel Drive in Waldorf, causing approximately $15,000 worth of damage. ARMED ROBBERY: The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in a robbery that occurred last year. On Dec. 30, 2006, officers received the report that on Dec 28, a 23-year-old Waldorf man was assaulted and knocked unconscious in a parking lot on Keepsake Place in Waldorf. The suspects fled after stealing the victim’s wallet. The victim was treated at Southern Maryland Hospital for his injuries. On March 26, Brian Germaine Flemming, 20, of Waldorf was arrested by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office on burglary warrants. Further investigation revealed Flemming was involved in the Dec. 30 incident. He was served with a warrant and charged with armed robbery, robbery, possession of a handgun, use of a handgun during a felony/violent crime and second-degree assault. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
