LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
THEFT/PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: On June 8 at 11:04 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Pep Boys located at 3390 Crain Highway in La Plata for the report of a theft in progress. A Maryland State Police Trooper and Sheriffs Officer J. Clagett observed the suspect running in the parking lot and gave chase. Officer Clagett apprehended the suspect and identified him as Andre Burrell Jones, 26, of Temple Hills. Investigation revealed Jones had broken the windows in four parked cars and windows at the business. He also stole two cd players. A search subsequent to his arrest revealed he was in possession of a device used for smoking crack. He was charged with destruction of property valued at more than $500, theft valued at less than $500, possession of drug paraphernalia, first- and second-degree burglary and fleeing and eluding. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
DRUG ARREST: On June 6 at approximately 12:05 p.m., a tractor-trailer hauling an excavator on a flatbed became disabled in the southbound lanes of Crain Highway near Holly Tree Lane in Waldorf. The low chasis of the trailer became stuck in the roadway while it was ascending a hill. When Charles County Sheriffs officers arrived on the scene, the driver of the vehicle, Philip Aurthur Defelice, 42, of Albuquerque, N.M., was in the excavator attempting to use the bucket to free the trailer, causing damage to the asphalt. Officers ordered him to stop immediately. They arrested Defelice for property destruction. Investigation revealed Defelice was wanted in Michigan and he was in possession of Oxycontin and drug paraphernalia. Officers also discovered the serial number trailer had been defaced. Defelice was charged with property destruction, possession of Oxycontin and drug paraphernalia and removing a serial number. Officer C. Walden investigated.
