MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

On Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 12:36 pm, Tpr. C. Evans initiated a traffic stop on Mechanicsville Road in Mechanicsville on a white Dodge Neon due to the driver not being restrained by the seat belt. Contact was made with the driver, a 22 year old male, and the passenger, Manda Lee Swider, 18, both of Mechanicsville. A strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop Ms. Swider was found to be in possession of two bags of marijuana and a four partially burnt marijuana cigars. Ms. Swider was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. She was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 12:59 pm, TFC Linger initiated a traffic stop on a silver Cadillac Deville on Route 236 in Mechanicsville because the passenger was not restrained by his seat belt. Contact was made with the driver, Derrick Ciske Mason, 23, of Leonardtown and an odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Mason was found to be in possession of cellophane bag of marijuana. Mr. Mason was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 10:10 pm, TFC Nims made contact with the complainant at the Shell Station at Route 235 and Pegg Road for a reported theft of motor vehicle. The complainant advised he was at Maryland International Raceway earlier in the day and unknown suspect(s) stole a 2006 Yamaha ATV from the bed of his pickup truck. The Yamaha ATV was described as blue in color. All the graphics were removed except the word "YAMAHA" from the left side of the ATV. The lower A Arm was bent, the left head lamp was broken and the right rear tire was flat. No further information available at this time and the investigation continues.

On Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 7:46 pm, TFC Quade responded to a reported disturbance in the 20000 block of Freedom Run Drive in Lexington Park. Contact was made with the complainant, who advised Mr. Rudolph Russell Smith, 49, of Lexington Park assaulted her. Mr. Smith was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.
