Indian Head Bank Robbed


INDIAN HEAD, Md. (June 6, 2007) - The Mercantile Southern Maryland Bank in Indian Head was robbed this morning around 9:32 a.m. According to police, a male suspect armed with a handgun entered the bank and demanded money from the three tellers at the counter. The tellers complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured.

The bank is located at 1 North Prospect Avenue.

A description of the vehicle was broadcast by police and officers located it a short time later traveling at the intersection of Strauss Avenue and Gibey Place in Indian Head. Police stopped the vehicle and identified its driver, [Suspect info redacted. He passed in 2016 and the info is being redacted as a courtesy to the family.], as the suspect in the bank robbery.

[Name redacted] was arrested and charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, theft valued at more than $500 and using a handgun in the commission of a felony/violent crime. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s Victim Services Unit responded to the bank to assist the three tellers and a fourth bank employee who was in the bank at the time of the robbery.
