SMCM Graduating Class Includes 68 So. Md. Residents


ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland's (SMCM) graduating class of 2007 included 14 students from Calvert County, 15 students from Charles County, and 39 students from St. Mary's County. Overall, 437 students earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

College president Jane Margaret O'Brien said, "We are so proud of you and all your accomplishments. Congratulations on earning your degrees." St. Mary's has the highest graduation rate of any public college in Maryland. O'Brien added, "We are not just an honors program, we are an entire honors college; all students who graduate are honors graduates."

U.S. Representative Steny Hoyer (D-MD, 5th), House Majority Leader and member of the SMCM Board of Trustees, delivered the commencement address to the graduates and their families. "You will forget my words and perhaps my name, but you will not forget what you have done here. Always remember that your education is yours to keep forever, and that it never really ends," said Hoyer.

Bridget Anne Carlson of Owings graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Michele Lee Carpenter of Huntingtown graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.

Dominic Anthony Warwick Fragman of Saint Leonard graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history.
