LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: On June 3 at 2:33 a.m., Det. D. Gross of the Charles County Sheriffs Offices auto theft detail located a stolen vehicle unoccupied in a parking lot in the 1200 block of Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf. Other officers, including a K9 team, established surveillance of the vehicle and waited for someone to occupy it. When Allen Tyrone Butler, 26, of Washington, D.C., entered the vehicle, officers subsequently arrested and charged him with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and theft valued at more than $500. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. The detective found the vehicle while using a device that reads tag numbers and identifies stolen tags and vehicles. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Prince Georges County on May 29. Det. ARMED ROBBERY: On June 1 at 9:30 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Waldorf Liquors located at 2276 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed three male suspects entered the store, brandished handguns and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the registers and safe. During the robbery, one of the suspects struck the clerk, a 31-year-old Forestville man in the head with a gun. The clerk did not require medical treatment. The suspects are described as black males and were wearing face masks. Two were wearing all black clothing and one was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. They were in a newer-model, light-colored Ford mini-van. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS: On May 31 at 6 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the report of the reckless operation of a vehicle. A black 2002 Ford Crown Victoria was being operated at a high rate of speed on Crain Highway near Smallwood Drive in Waldorf. The vehicle continued south on Crain Highway and struck two cars stopped for a light at the intersection of Billingsley Road and did not stop. Sgt. R. Vaughn located the vehicle on Crain Highway at Theodore Green Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Donald Ray Kenney, 25, of Waldorf, appeared to be intoxicated and was subsequently arrested. He was transported to the Charles county Detention Center. A Sheriffs officer trained as a drug recognition expert also responded to the detention center. After conducting several tests he determined Kenney was under the influence of PCP. Kenney, who was charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, negligent driving, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, driving without a license and failure to attach license plates to the front and rear of the his vehicle, was being held at the Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
