St. Mary's BoE Announces New Staff Appointments


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Mary's County Board of Education announced several administrative appointments at its meeting of May 24, 2007.

The Board appointed Ms. Elizabeth Turner to the position of education director at the Chesapeake Public Charter School. She currently serves as principal of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC. Ms. Turner, who is a retired master principal from the Baltimore City Public School system, also has experience as an assistant principal, educational specialist, and elementary school classroom teacher. She has had work published in American Teacher and the Journal of the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators, and has served as a presenter at numerous regional conferences. Ms. Turner earned a Master of Education degree in reading from Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Mount St. Agnes in Baltimore, Md.

Ms. Luchrisha Flowers was named principal of White Marsh Elementary School. She currently serves as an assistant principal at Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School. Her experience includes serving as an assistant principal and classroom teacher at Lexington Park Elementary, and a Title I mathematics specialist and classroom teacher in the Normandy School District in St. Louis, Mo. Ms. Flowers holds a Master's degree in leadership in teaching from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, Md., and a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, NC.

The Board also named Ms. Andrea Owens assistant principal at Dynard Elementary School. Ms. Owens, who joined the school system in 1995, is currently an instructional resource teacher at Park Hall Elementary School, and also has experience as a mentor teacher and an elementary classroom teacher. She earned her Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in elementary education from Towson University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and Cum Laude respectively.

Mr. Jeff DiRenzo was named assistant principal at Lexington Park Elementary School. Mr. DiRenzo, who joined the school system in 2006, currently serves as a classroom teacher at Hollywood Elementary School, but previously served as a principal, assistant principal, and elementary school classroom teacher at La Gloria Elementary School in Gonzales, Ca. He earned a Master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., and a Bachelor's degree in forest resource management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va.

Mr. William Ridley was named food service specialist in the Division of Supporting Services. He rejoins the school system after most recently serving as the assistant dining services director of Asbury Solomon in Solomon, Md. His 25 years of experience includes serving as a cafeteria manager at Great Mills High School and a food service management specialist with the United States Navy.

In addition to these appointments, the following staff members will transfer from their current assignments to the assignments listed: Ms. Marcie Hough to the Department of Special Education as a supervisor of special education, Ms. Charlottis Woodley to the White Oak Secondary Center as principal, Ms. Lisa Bachner to Leonardtown Middle School as principal, Ms. Debra Bowling to Benjamin Banneker Elementary School as principal, and Mr. Kevin Igoe to the Department of Pupil Services as a pupil personnel worker.

These appointments and transfers become effective July 2, 2007.
