BALTIMORE - The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) honored Maryland students and teachers on Wednesday, May 9 for their service and leadership in the field of service-learning at Maryland's Service-Learning Recognition Dinner which was held at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel.
Forty-six Student Service Stars were recognized for extraordinary contributions to their communities through service-learning and for their service and leadership in promoting service among their peers. Seven of the forty-six were from Southern Maryland.
"I am proud of these students who have gone beyond their district's service-learning plan, giving hundreds, and in some cases, in excess of 2,000 hours of service to their communities," said Nancy S. Grasmick, State Schools Superintendent. "And, I'm impressed by the dedication of the honored teachers for their wonderful ability to create exemplary service-learning experiences for their students and provide expertise to their peers."
