SCOTLAND, Md. – Volunteers from the Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society (PLLPS) will be opening the Point Lookout Lighthouse to the general public May through November on the first Saturday of each month between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“Point Lookout State Park received the light house just last year, but the park was only able to host one open house in November,” said Ranger Rob Jones. “This year, we were fortunate enough to partner with some enthusiastic volunteers who are dedicated to making the lighthouse more accessible to the public.”
Visitors to the Point Lookout Lighthouse must pay the Park’s entrance service charge which is $5 per person for Maryland residents and $6 per person for non-residents. Prices are slightly lower during the off-season (October and November) when the service charge lowers to $3 and $4 per car for residents and non-residents respectively.
PLLPS is a non-profit organization and is seeking donations and volunteers to help restore the lighthouse to the state it in was in during the 1920s when it was reconstructed. For further information please visit the PLLPS website at http://www.pllps.org/ .
