CHARLES COUNTY, Md. - A California, Md. woman lost her life last Thursday when she lost control of her vehicle and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Both passengers in the second vehicle were seriously injured. The accident occurred on Md. Route 5 near Forest Drive in Charles County, Md.
On the Thursday, May 3 at approximately 5:52 a.m., Troopers from the La Plata Barrack responded to southbound Leonardtown Rd. (Md. Route 5) in the area of Forest Park Dr. for a serious motor vehicle crash.
The officer's investigation revealed that a Toyota was being driven southbound on Leonardtown Rd. by Britiany Mercer of California, Md. She lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the northbound lanes of Leonardtown Rd. A Chrysler 300 driven by Stanley Ketchal of La Plata, Md. struck the Toyota. Ruby Ketchal, also of La Plata, was a passenger in the Chrysler 300.
Both Ketchals received incapacitating injuries and were transported to Prince Georges Trauma Center by Maryland State Police TROOPER 7.
Britiany Mercer was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police TROOPER 2 where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation is being conducted by Tpr. Clark.
