HOLLYWOOD, Md. - Hollywood Elementary School has been selected as a Maryland Physical Education Demonstration School for 2007-2009. This recognition is awarded to schools whose physical education programs are considered to be exemplary and thus model programs in the state.
A three-person school visitation team, comprised of professional physical educators from other Maryland school systems, recently conducted an onsite visit to assess the schools' application, and the overall physical education program.
The physical education program, which addresses the needs of students of all abilities, was developed by Mary Kaye Roper and Trish Tillotson. "They are to be commended on this outstanding achievement and we hope that many physical education teachers from across the state will choose to visit the school to witness outstanding instruction and a commitment to providing students with the skills and knowledge needed to be physically active for a lifetime," wrote Andrew C. Roper, Ph.D., Supervisor of Instruction for Physical Education, Health, and Athletics for the St. Mary's County Public School system.
