Iron Workers Union, Crime Solvers, Offering Rewards Totaling $21,000
LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation of a homicide that occurred early Thanksgiving morning in 2004, and Iron Workers Local 5 has announced it is renewing its $20,000 reward for information about the case.
Christopher Abraham Mader, a 23-year-old Waldorf resident, was murdered Nov. 25 as he was driving from his job as a bartender at Bennigan’s Grill and Tavern in Waldorf about 3 a.m. Mader was traveling west on Smallwood Drive, just outside of his neighborhood, Hampshire, when he was shot and killed and his vehicle crashed into a sign and a power box. Despite detectives’ aggressive investigative efforts, the case remains unsolved.
Ironworkers Local 5, a union serving Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas, is offering $20,000 for information leading to in an arrest or indictment. The union offered a reward in 2005 that expired before anyone came forward with information. The new reward is being offered between through Sept. 30, 2007 and is in addition to a $1,000 reward being offered by Charles County Crime Solvers.
There are no new investigative details to report, however, the Sheriff’s Office is hoping the announcement of the reward fund may compel those with information to come forward.
“We hope announcing the reward money will generate good information and urge the people who know something about this horrible crime to come forward,” said Sheriff Rex W. Coffey. “I am very grateful to the Ironworkers Union for contributing such a large amount of money to the reward fund. They know Chris and his family deserve justice.”
Detectives received several leads following the murder but the leads did not produce a suspect. Prince George’s County Police received a 9-1-1 call in connection with the incident shortly after it occurred, however, after a brief conversation the call was disconnected before the call-taker was able to obtain the caller’s information. The Sheriff’s Office also released a sketch of a person who detectives believed may have information about the murder but detectives were unable to identify the person in the sketch and say it does not appear to be related to the investigation.
