WASHINGTON - Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today enthusiastically endorsed Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) for President of the United States. Senator Mikulski joins Governor Tom Vilsack (D-Iowa) as a National Chair of the Hillary for President campaign. As a National Chair, Senator Mikulski will act as a national surrogate, speak on behalf of the candidate, aid in the development of campaign strategy, and help bring Senator Clinton's message to core constituencies.
"I have only the greatest respect for our field of Democratic candidates, but today I am proud to endorse Senator Clinton for President. I believe Hillary will bring us together around the smart solutions to America's problems. She is results-driven and a pragmatist who will put this nation back on track, whether it's ending the war in Iraq, providing educational opportunities for our children, restoring our standing in the world, or addressing our increasing deficit," said Senator Mikulski. "As the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in my own right, I am honored to take on this role at the request of Senator Clinton, who is breaking the last public barrier for women in public life."
"I am truly honored to have the support of Barbara Mikulski," Clinton said. "She has literally paved the way for me and countless other women who now serve in the Congress, and she's never forgotten who she represents. She's been a tireless fighter for improving our schools, caring for our Seniors and ensuring that our veterans get the equipment and health care they need."
