LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: On April 21 9:30 p.m., the Charles County Sheriff’s Office’s auto theft detail located a stolen vehicle unoccupied in the Festival Shopping Center on Festival Way in Waldorf. Officers established surveillance of the vehicle and waited for someone to occupy it. When Jose Angel Aguilar, 27, of Waldorf entered the vehicle, he was subsequently arrested and charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and theft valued at more than $500. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officers found the vehicle while using a device that reads tag numbers and identifies stolen tags and vehicles. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Montgomery County. Det. D. Gross investigated.

POLICE PURSUIT: On April 22 at 12:19 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer D. Suave attempted to stop a Nissan 300ZX for a traffic violation on Lancaster Circle at Log Teal Drive in Waldorf. The vehicle failed to stop and turned onto Log Teal Drive, which intersects Lancaster Circle at both ends. Officer Suave continued on Lancaster Circle and as the Nissan exited the other end of Log Teal Drive, it turned onto Lancaster Circle into Officer Suave’s lane of travel and struck his cruiser head-on. The driver of the Nissan, Cecil Jerome Herd Jr., 25, of La Plata, was apprehended. He had minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to Civista Medical Center for treatment. Officer Suave was not injured. Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage. Herd’s license was suspended and revoked and the vehicle was uninsured. A warrant for Herd’s arrest has been issued, charging him with driving while suspended, driving while revoked, eluding police, driving an uninsured vehicle and failure to stop after a motor vehicle crash.

POLICE PURSUIT: Between 2 a.m. and 3:55 a.m. on April 22, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to several reports of the reckless operation of four-wheelers around the 14000 and 15000 blocks of Bassford Road in Waldorf. At approximately 3:30 a.m., Officer A. St. Germain observed a red four-wheeler being operated by a male suspect on Route 5 near Oliver Shop Road in Hugesville. He attempted to stop the ATV but the operator fled. Additional officers arrived but terminated their pursuit of the ATV when the driver fled south in the northbound lanes of Route 5. At approximately 4:30 a.m., officers observed the driver of the ATV walking on Gallant Green Road near Foster Lane. When they attempted to arrest the driver, he resisted and officers had to use a taser to briefly immobilize the suspect and allow officers to gain control of him. Alan Joseph Badeaux, 19, of La Plata was charged with fleeing and eluding, driving while suspended, reckless driving, operating in the wrong direction on a divided highway, driving without headlights, speeding, failure to stop at a red signal and a vehicle registration violation. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officers searched the area and found the ATV in a nearby sediment pond.
