MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 1:21 pm, TFC Grimes initiated a traffic stop on a white Jeep Cherokee on Bull Road in Leonardtown for exceeding the posted speed limit. Contact was made with the driver, William Douglas Wathen, Jr., 45, of Leonardtown. TFC Grimes detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Wathen was found to be in possession of 22 grams of marijuana and a CDS smoking device. He was arrested for possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Wathen was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 9:34 pm, TFC Linger initiated a traffic stop on a brown Buick on Route 235 north, of Wheeler Road in Lexington Park for exceeding the posted speed limit. Contact was made with the driver, Glen Michael Allen Gilley, 18, of Lexington Park and the passenger, Steveland Morris Penn Stewart, 21, of Lexington Park. A strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Gilley and Mr. Stewart were found to be in possession of 129.4 grams of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. They were arrested, charged with possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 1:53 am, Tpr. C. Evans initiated a traffic stop on a tan Chevrolet Caprice on Indian Bridge Road at Route 5 in Great Mills for failing to drive in a single lane. Contact was made with the driver, Cindy Lou McCarson, 41, of Park Hall. A MVA check revealed her driving privileges were suspended in Maryland. She was arrested for driving on a suspended license. Contact was also made with the passenger, Damion Juanidas Somerville, 30, of Avenue. A check of NCIC revealed Mr. Somerville had an outstanding warrant through the St. Mary's Sheriff Office. A search incident to the arrest revealed Ms. McCarson was in possession of a CDS smoking device with cocaine residue and a partially burnt marijuana cigarette. Ms. McCarson was arrested for possession of cocaine, CDS paraphernalia and other traffic related charges. She was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review. Mr. Somerville was arrested on the outstanding warrant and released to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department.

On Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 9:45 am, TFC Trossbach initiated a traffic stop on a white Cadillac on Route 5 at Route 243 in Leonardtown for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, Christie Lynn McGraw, 24, of Callaway. During the course of the traffic stop, Ms. McGraw was found to be in possession of a small baggie of marijuana. Ms. McGraw was arrested for possession of marijuana and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 12:24 pm, TFC Nims initiated a traffic stop on a gray Chevrolet Corsica on Route 242 at Route 238 in Bushwood for equipment violations. Contact was made with the Thomas Levin Ryce, Jr., 49, of Mechanicsville. During the course of the traffic stop a plastic bag of cocaine was found in the vehicle. Mr. Ryce was arrested for possession of cocaine and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Friday, April 20, 2007 at 9:57 pm, TFC Grimes initiated a traffic stop on a silver Toyota truck on Indian Bridge Road at Park Avenue in California for exceeding the posted speed limit. Contact was made with the driver, Gregory Daniel Orgel, 29, of Tall Timbers and a strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. During the course of the traffic stop, a small metal can of marijuana was recovered from Mr. Orgel's person. He was arrested for possession of marijuana and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 3:34 am, TFC E. Evans initiated a traffic stop on a blue Chevrolet truck on Route 4 north of North Patuxent Beach Road in California for suspicious activity. Contact was made with the driver, Shane Michael Goldstraw, 31, of Middle River. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath and person. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Goldstraw was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. A search incident to arrest revealed Mr. Goldstraw was in possession of a CDS smoking device with marijuana residue. Mr. Goldstraw was charged with possession of marijuana and DUI. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 12:46 am, TFC E. Evans initiated a traffic stop on a blue Ford Crown Victoria on Route 235 at Old Rolling Road in California for failing to drive in a single lane. Contact was made with the driver, Kevin Bryan Wright, 22, of California. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath and his person. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Wright was arrested for diving under the influence of alcohol. A search incident to arrest revealed Mr. Wright was in possession of a CDS smoking device with cocaine residue. Mr. Wright was charged with possession of cocaine and DUI and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 4:29 am, Tpr. White responded to a reported burglary in the 27000 block of Harpers Corner Road in Mechanicsville. Upon arrival contact was made with the suspect, James Christopher Yorkshire, 24, of Mechanicsville. During the course of the investigation, Mr. Yorkshire was arrested for 4th degree Burglary and resisting arrest. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 9:12 pm, TFC Nims responded to reported burglary and theft in the 23000 block of Maddox Road in Bushwood. Contact was made with the 60 year old female complainant. She advised unknown suspect(s) stole two (2) English saddles and one (1) Western Saddle and other tack gear from the stable. Investigation is continuing.
