Citizen Complaints Result in 36 Citations in Country Lakes Community

LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office announced that in response to citizen complaints about speeding within the Country Lakes Community, a traffic enforcement operation was conducted on April 4 and April 5, 2007. The enforcement initiative focused on Asher Drive and Yowaiski Mill Road and resulted in the issuance of thirty-six citations and seven warnings. Two persons stopped during the traffic enforcement initiative were arrested for operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license.

The Sheriff's Office said Deputy Sheriff's will continue to monitor the traffic in the community and take enforcement action when appropriate. In an effort to educate the residents and to remind them of the speed limits within the neighborhood, plans have been made to temporarily place a portable speed board within the community. The board will display the posted speed limit as well as the speed of the vehicle as it approaches the board.
