LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED: On March 21 at 12:37 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer C. Gass conducted a traffic stop for speeding in the 3700 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf. When he approached the driver, he detected a strong odor of alcohol and asked the driver to exit the vehicle to perform several field sobriety tests. While the officer was explaining the tests, the driver, William Scott Gallo, 21, of La Plata, started running away. Officer Gass yelled for Gallo to stop but Gallo continued running and nearly entered the highway but Officer Gass deployed a taser which struck Gallo, immediately immobilizing him and preventing him from continuing in to traffic. Gallo was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, speeding and fleeing on foot. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. No one was injured.
