Charlotte Hall Party Turns Deadly; PCP Involved


LA PLATA, Md. - According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, one man was murdered and two others suffered serious stab wounds during a party at a Charlotte Hall residence on Friday night. Police say at least some of the party goers involved in the altercation were under the influence of marijuana and PCP.

On March 16 at 10:35 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 13400 block of Budds Creek Road in Charlotte Hall for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims: Richard Blane Barlow, Jr., 37, of Charlotte Hall, a 25-year-old Charlotte Hall man, and a 31-year-old La Plata man. Barlow was pronnounced dead at the scene and the other victims were transported to Prince George's County Hospital Center. The surviving victims are in stable condition.

The suspect, who fled on foot prior to the officers' arrival, was identified as Ronald Eugene Cannady, 22, of Oxon Hill. Officers located him nearby a short time later and arrested him.

The investigation revealed the suspect and victims were attending a gathering at the house and became involved in an altercation, during which Cannady stabbed the three victims. Cannady is an aquaintence of one of the victims, the La Plata man, who brought Cannady to the gathering. At least some of the participants in the fight were under the influence of marijuana and PCP. The cause of the altercation is being investigated.

Cannady has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
