Calvert Police Make Arrests in Two Illegal Drug Investigations

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. - Police in Calvert County today announced arrests in two separate illegal drug operations. Both cases were the result of investigations. Illegal drugs, cash, and property were seized in both incidents.

The first case was an investigation of illegal drug distribution which was initiated by the Calvert County Narcotic Unit during the month of February 2007. Surveillance of a suspect culminated in an arrest for possession of cocaine in a quantity sufficient to indicate intent to distribute.

Acting on information supplied by the Narcotic Unit, Cpl. Anthony Moschetto, assisted by DFC Joseph Windsor, conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle on February 20 at 3:50 p.m. at Md. Rt. 4 and Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick. According to police, Derrick A. Brown, 27, of Chesapeake Beach, was found to be in possession of 76.7 grams (2.7 ounces) of cocaine. The cocaine had an estimated street value of $14,920. Brown's 2001 Chevy Tahoe and $191 in cash were seized.

In the second case, members of the Calvert County Narcotic Unit executed a search and seizure warrant on the Huntingtown home of a suspect in the drug investigation. Police entered the residence and encountered three males who were detained without incident. According to police, 7 grams of suspected cocaine was discovered and seized. A 2005 Chrysler 300M, $3,510 in cash, jewelry, 2 rifles, and live ammo were also seized.

Arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm were Tony R. Merritt, Jr., 21, and Tyrone R. Merritt, 18, both of Huntingtown; and Colbert J. Jones, 23 of Lusby.
