Waldorf Man Dies in Head-on Motorcycle Crash

LA PLATA, Md. - A twenty-seven year-old Waldorf, Md. man lost his life yesterday when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck an oncoming SUV near Waldorf.

On March 5 at 5:36 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 10900 block of DeMarr Road in Waldorf for the report of a motorcycle crash. The officer's investigation revealed a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling east on DeMarr Road when the driver lost control around a curve and crossed the center line into the path of a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer traveling in the opposite direction. The vehicles collided and the driver of the motorcycle was subsequently ejected.

The driver of the motorcycle, Richard Eric Davis, 27, of Waldorf, was transported to Civista Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Blazer, Harriet Davidson Tippett, 41, of Waldorf, was transported to Southern Maryland Hospital Center as a precaution.

Speed and driver error appear to be factors in the crash. Davis was wearing a helmet.

Cpl. R.H. Taylor Jr. of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.

This is the third traffic fatality of the year in Charles County.
