LEONARDTOWN, Md. - St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Deputies from both the Patrol Division and Special Operations Division conducted a "Pro-Active Law Enforcement Operation" on Saturday, March 3. The operation was funded in part by a Collaborative Supervision and Focused Enforcement (CSAFE) grant obtained through the Governor's Office. CSAFE is a program that coordinates law enforcement and crime prevention strategies in high crime areas.
The operation took place in the CSAFE area of Lexington Park, which has been identified as a high crime area. The operation led to the following actions:
* Four Criminal Arrests
* Three Traffic Arrests
* Sixteen Traffic Warnings
* Eight Traffic Citations
* One Alcohol Violation
* Five K-9 Scans
* Three Illegal Aliens identified (2 Mexican and 1 Guatemalan)
* More than 120 street contacts.
Police say that additional operations similar to this will continue throughout the year.
