LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
CRASH/DEATH INVESTIGATION UPDATE: On Feb. 15 at 8:43 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Pear Tree Court in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 2006 Ford F250 was on Wakefield Circle when it left the roadway and drove into the front yard of the residence after its driver, Thomas Richard Warnick, Jr. of Waldorf suffered a medical emergency. The pickup truck struck a parked vehicle and a tree, causing minor damage to both vehicles. The homeowner called 9-1-1 and advised the driver was unresponsive. Sheriffs officers arrived on the scene and began CPR. Emergency medical services personnel transported the Warnick by ambulance to Civista Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Feb. 14 at 12:26 p.m., Dorothy Ellen Rooney, 75, of Pomfret was westbound in her 1997 Toyota 4Runner on Billingsley Road, west of Annies Place in Pomfret, when the vehicle rounded a curve and slid on a patch of ice at the bottom of a hill. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned in a ditch. Rooney, who was wearing her seatbelt and able exit the vehicle on her own, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Prince Georges Hospital Center. A portion of Billingsley Road was closed for about an hour to allow a tow truck to remove the vehicle. Officer R. Glover of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
STABBING: On Feb. 19 at 4:18 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Robinson Place in Waldorf for the report of a stabbing. Investigation revealed a 19-year-old woman stabbed her 47-year-old uncle with a steak knife during a domestic argument, causing a superficial wound to his shoulder. The accused was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree assault and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Her name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim. Officer A. St. Germain investigated.
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY ARREST: On Feb. 18 at 9:58 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the 200 block of Westdale Drive in Waldorf for the report of a strong-arm robbery. Investigation revealed the victim, a 19-year-old Mitchellville, Md., man, was in his vehicle parked at Super C, located at 11901 Business Park Drive in Waldorf, when the suspect asked him for a ride. The victim declined the suspects request but the suspect entered the vehicle through the right rear side and grabbed the victim by the collar. The suspect told the victim to drive to the 300 block of Trefoil Place in Waldorf. The victim complied with the order and when they arrived, the suspect demanded money from the victim and searched the victims pockets. The suspect stole money from the victims wallet and then fled on foot. Officers searched the area and located the suspect nearby on Holly Tree Drive near Hadley Circle. The suspect was identified as Kevin Morgan, 26, of Waldorf and arrested. He was charged with robbery, theft and assault and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer C. Gass is investigating.
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Feb. 16 at 2:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Hadley Drive in Waldorf for the report of a strong-arm robbery. Investigation revealed a 16-year-old Waldorf boy was standing at the intersection of Hadley Drive and Holly Tree Lane when four suspects approached him. The suspects punched him, knocking him to the ground, where they then stomped on him. During the assault, one of the suspects took the victims wallet out of his pocket. The four suspects then fled the scene toward Hatteras Circle. Officers recovered the victims wallet in a nearby Dumpster after a witness reported seeing the suspects discard it. Officers searched the area and found one of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy, nearby at the intersection of Western Parkway. The other suspects have not been identified and are described as black males wearing North Face jackets, blue jeans and black ski masks. WANTED: The Charles County Sheriffs Office is asking for the publics assistance in locating Joseph Lloyd Welch
(pictured at left), 33, of Mechanicsville. Welch has three outstanding arrest warrants in Charles County and is also wanted by the St. Marys County Sheriffs Office. The charges include theft, forgery, second-degree escape and failing to obey a court order.
