Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

CRASH/DEATH INVESTIGATION: On Feb. 15 at 8:43 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Pear Tree Court in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 2006 Ford F250 was on Wakefield Circle when it left the roadway and drove into the front yard of the residence after its driver, Thomas Richard Warnick, Jr., 50, of Waldorf apparently suffered a medical emergency. The pickup truck struck a parked vehicle and a tree, causing minor damage to both vehicles. The homeowner called 9-1-1 and advised the driver was unresponsive. Sheriff’s officers arrived on the scene and began CPR. Emergency medical services personnel transported the Warnick by ambulance to Civista Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Cpl. D. Belfield of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash. This is incident is being investigated as a traffic fatality, the third of the year.

PROPERTY DESTRUCTION: Sometime between 11 a.m. Feb. 15 and 7 a.m. Feb. 16, suspect(s) damaged six excavators and two bulldozers at a construction site at the end of Bancroft Road off of Bensville Road in Waldorf. The equipment sustained $20,000 worth of damage, including broken windows. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777.
