LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The Board of Commissioners for St. Mary's County today announced that Karen B. Everett has been appointed as Public Information Officer (PIO), effective Tuesday, February 20, 2007.
Everett replaces Jennifer Green. Green recently gave birth to her first child and is leaving government service to be a stay-at-home mother.
Everett received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from the University of Florida, in 1980 and a Master's of Public Administration from the University of California, in 1988. Her career experience includes assignments in corporate public relations with BAE Systems, Prudential Insurance, Barnett Bank, AT&T and Coldwell Banker. Ms. Everett served as the Manager of Business Development for St. Mary's County Department of Economic Development from 2000 to 2005. She has also worked in public affairs at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division and Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division. She was accredited by the Public Relations Society of America in 1985.
