Single Vehicle Accident Claims One Life on Route 234

LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office has reported that a 78 year-old Chaptico man died in a single vehicle accident on Route 234 yesterday evening.

On February 7, 2007 at approximately 5:31 p.m., a 1998 GMC Sonoma pickup, operated by Kenneth Lee Davis, 78 of Chaptico, was traveling Westbound on Maryland Route 234 in the area of Mechanicsville Road. The vehicle crossed the center line, traveled through the Eastbound lane and exited the roadside. The vehicle entered a ditch, struck an embankment, and after striking a utility pole came to rest on its roof.

Mr. Davis was the lone occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction team is currently conducting the investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor at this point.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Corporal Chris Morley at 301-475-4200, ext. 9048.
