McKay's Food & Drug Set To Expand To Shops at Breton Bay

HOLLYWOOD, Md. - McKay's Food & Drug, an independent grocery store chain that currently operates four stores throughout Southern Maryland, has signed a lease with Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corporation for 44,000 square feet of space at The Shops at Breton Bay, a 100,000 square foot retail center in Leonardtown, Maryland. The store is expected to be operational in April 2007.

The addition of McKay's Food & Drug represents the latest improvement to the neighborhood shopping center in St. Mary's County. Buffalo Wings and Beer, an entertainment-style restaurant, signed a lease with the center last fall, and Auto Zone moved into a pad site position in 6700 square feet of space in early 2006. The center is fully leased, but has two additional pad sites available.

The supermarket—which was founded in 1948—features fresh seafood, meat, poultry and produce sections, as well as a full-service bakery and deli. A fresh-cut flower and prepared foods department, as well as a salad bar and professional pharmacy are also included in the layout.

"Our niche is exceptional customer service, becoming involved in the local community and offering the products and services that our shoppers are looking for," explained David McKay, President of McKay's Food & Drug. "The Shops at Breton Bay offers the ideal environment for our store concept to thrive, as it caters to a captive audience in the Leonardtown community. We are also surrounded by excellent merchants who drive consumers to the center on a regular basis," he added.

Located approximately seven miles from Patuxent River Naval Station, The Shops at Breton Bay is also anchored by Tru Value Hardware and World Gym, as well as four pad sites. Household incomes range between $50,000 and $70,000 in its primary market area.

"We have attracted an anchor tenant that is extremely well-operated and respected in the Southern Maryland marketplace, as well as one that has become integrated within the St. Mary's community," stated Brian Gibbons, President and CEO of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial. "Independent grocery stores typically feature a unique style of character and customer service, as they work hard to connect with and understand the needs of their customers. McKay's will be an excellent addition to our diversified tenant mix," he added.

"The Shops at Breton Bay has been the focus of a comprehensive leasing re-tenanting program over the past year and, with this latest signing, we have successfully completed our improvement efforts," stated Erwin L. Greenberg, Chairman of the Board of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial. "Through a combination of physical plant upgrades and leasing efforts, we have significantly advanced the shopping center environment to service the exacting needs of Leonardtown residents," he added.
