Two More Robberies In Charles County


LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following robbery incident reports.

ARMED ROBBERY: On Jan. 29 at 2:41 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Wawa located at 4120 Crain Highway in White Plains for the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed two suspects entered the business, approached the manager in the office, brandished a handgun and demanded money. The manager complied and the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money and cartons of Newport cigarettes and fled the scene.

Both suspects were described as black males. The first suspect is 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build, has a mustache, shoulder length braids and was wearing black coveralls with a hood. The second suspect is 6 feet tall with a medium build and is dark-complexioned. He was wearing dark pants, a black hooded sweatshirt and a black puffy jacket.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Jan. 26 at 10:50 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 11700 block of Majestic Place in Waldorf for the report of a strong-arm robbery. Investigation revealed the victim, a 28-year-old Waldorf man, was exiting Commerce Liquors located at 11919 Business Park Drive in Waldorf when the suspect asked him for a ride. The victim drove the suspect to the area of Tawny Drive and Tanglewood Drive and when he stopped the car, the suspect grabbed the victim by the arm and demanded money. The victim ordered the suspect out of his vehicle but the suspect refused and implied he had a handgun. The suspect stole a CD case and cell phone and fled the scene. The victim was not injured.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male with short hair. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.

ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY: On Jan. 25 at 8 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Wash House located at 6980 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head for the report of an attempted armed robbery. Investigation revealed the suspect washed and dried laundry and left the business. He returned minutes later and struck the clerk, a 59-year-old Springfield, Va., man, in the head with a blunt object. When another employee, a 54-year-old woman, attempted to help the injured clerk, the suspect struck her in the head with the weapon as well. The two clerks fled on foot. The suspect rummaged through the store before fleeing on foot. It was unclear whether the suspect stole anything. The victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to Fort Washington Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male between 40 and 50 years of age. He stands 5 feet 8 inches tall, has a stocky build and was wearing dark clothing.
