Hoyer to Deliver Major Address on Iraq Fri.

WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) will deliver a speech on Iraq at the Brookings Institution on Friday, January 26, at 10 a.m. Among other things, Majority Leader Hoyer will examine and comment on President Bush's Iraq policy, including his recent proposal to escalate the American presence in Iraq; discuss Congressional Democrats' commitment to conducting meaningful oversight on Iraq and anticipated House action on a Resolution that objects to the President's recent proposal; and the Majority Leader's view that the international community has a collective – and continuing – obligation to help stabilize and secure Iraq.

Majority Leader Hoyer will be introduced by Strobe Talbott, President of the Brookings Institution. Martin Indyk, a Senior Fellow at Brookings and Director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, will serve as moderator.
