MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

On Friday, January 5, 2007 at 4:00 pm, Tpr. Adams was patrolling Rt. 5, in the area of Loveville when he observed a 1995 Chevrolet Sierra truck. He observed the driver, Jonathan Craig Rainey, 24, of Leonardtown was not restrained by the seat belt. A routine traffic stop was initiated for the equipment violation. A check of Mr. Rainey's driver's license revealed his driving privileges in Maryland are suspended. Mr. Rainey was arrested for driving on a suspended license. A search incident to arrest revealed marijuana in a metal container in the vehicle and a methadone tablet. Mr. Rainey was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of CDS - not marijuana and other traffic violations.

On Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 2:30 am, TFC Koch responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of the 38000 block of Chaptico Road in Mechanicsville. Upon arrival, TFC Koch made contact with the driver, Garrett Dewayne Butler, 27, of Lexington Park, in a 1997 Acura, stuck in a front yard. A strong odor of alcohol was emitting from his breath. After further investigation, Mr. Butler was arrested for DWI and driving while revoked. A search incident to arrest revealed cocaine on the floor of the vehicle. Mr. Butler was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review. Mr. Butler was charged with DWI and driving while revoked and possession of cocaine.

On Sunday, January 14, 2007 at 11:53 pm, TFC Trossbach responded to the 24000 block of Beck Road in Hollywood for a report of suspected CDS activity. Upon arrival, contact was made with a female occupant, Jaclyn Marie Maynard, 22, of Hollywood at the front door. A strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the residence. Once inside the residence, contact was made with Justin Scott Vangieson, 22, of Hollywood. A partially burnt marijuana cigar was seen in plain view on the end table next to the sofa. Additionally, one clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, two multi colored CDS smoking devices, a Pelouze digital scale containing marijuana residue and two additional partially burnt marijuana cigars were found. Ms. Maynard & Mr. Vangieson were arrested for possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. They were transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown and held pending a bond review.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 8:25 am, TFC Rezza and Tpr Pilkerton were patrolling in the area of Rt. 235 in Mechanicsville when they observed 2004 Honda Accord exceeding the posted speed limit. A routine traffic stop was initiated for the violation. Contact was made with the driver, Gary James Zalovick, 27, of Waldorf. After a check of his driver's license status, it was discovered Mr. Zalovick's driving privileges were suspended in Maryland. Mr. Zalovick was arrested for driving while suspended. A search incident to arrest revealed Mr. Zalovick was in possession of cocaine and various prescription medications not prescribed to him. Mr. Zalovick was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review.

On Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 1:25 pm, TFC Quade was patrolling on Pegg Road in Lexington Park when he observed a 2003 Dodge Neon exceeding the posted speed limit. A routine traffic stop was initiated for the speeding violation. Contact was made with the driver, William Thomas Parks III, 20, of Lexington Park. A check of his driver's license revealed his driving privileges were suspended in Maryland. Mr. Parks was arrested for driving while suspended. Upon contact with the passenger, Nathan Tyrone Butler, 23, of Lexington Park, a strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from his person. Further investigation revealed Mr. Butler was in possession of a small plastic bag of marijuana and a partially smoked marijuana cigarette. Mr. Butler was arrested for possession of marijuana. Both subjects were transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review.
