Two Arrested for Lexington Park Robberies


LEXINGTON PARK, Md. - A botched robbery at the Lexington Park Mattress Corner led to the arrest of two men. Police also tied the two men to an earlier robbery at Papa John's Pizza.

According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department, on Jan. 13, 2007 at approximately 8 p.m., an employee leaving the Mattress Corner in Lexington Park was confronted by a male suspect who placed a pellet gun in his back and demanded money. The employee gave the suspect an envelope without money inside. The suspect then went to a nearby waiting vehicle and fled the area.

Detectives from Saint Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) located two suspects a short distance away from the store. According to police, the subsequent investigation tied the men to the Mattress Corner robbery as well as a robbery at nearby Papa John's which occurred on Dec. 23, 2006.

The two men arrested were identified as Steven Karl Scott, black male, 18 years old of Lexington Park, Md. and Martese Devon Thomas, black male, 30 years old of Great Mills, Md.

Both men were charged with two counts of armed robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Both men were taken before the court commissioner and were held on $25.000 bond.
