MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

On January 7, 2007 at 2:30 am, TFC Koch responded to the report of a single vehicle accident in the 38000 block of Chaptico Road in Mechanicsville. When TFC Koch arrived, he made contact with the driver, Garrett Dewayne Butler, 27, of Lexington Park. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his person. A routine check of MVA revealed that Mr. Butler's driving privileges are revoked. Mr. Butler was arrested for DUI and driving while revoked. A search incident to arrest led to the finding of a CDS smoking device with cocaine residue on the floor of the car. Mr. Butler was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown and charged with DUI, driving while revoked, possession of cocaine and CDS paraphernalia and held pending a bond review.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 8:01 am, TFC Linger was patrolling Rt. 5 in the area of Morganza. TFC Linger observed a 1998 Nissan Altima with a cracked windshield traveling southbound Rt. 5. A routine traffic stop was initiated for the equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, Steven Preston Yates, 56, of Loveville. A plastic bag containing cocaine was observed in the vehicle in plain view. A search incident to arrest revealed a small metal canister containing cocaine and a $10.00 bill with cocaine residue. Mr. Yates was arrested for possession of cocaine and CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Yates was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 12:02 pm, TFC Trossbach was patrolling on Rt. 247 in the area of Busy Corner Rd. He observed the operator of a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck not wearing his seat belt. A routine traffic stop was initiated for the equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, Joseph Kane Frank, 18, of Mechanicsville. A probable cause search was conducted of the driver and vehicle. A CDS smoking device was recovered from Mr. Frank's person. A search incident to arrest revealed another CDS smoking device and some cocaine was recovered from the vehicle. Mr. Frank was arrested for possession of cocaine and CDS paraphernalia. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 1:20 pm, TFC Grimes was patrolling Pegg Road in Lexington Park. TFC Grimes observed a 1993 Chevrolet Geo traveling west bound on Pegg Road in the area of Ronald Drive. TFC Grimes initiated a routine traffic stop for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, Phillip Aaron Young, 19, of Hollywood. Check through MVA revealed Mr. Young did not have a valid license and was subsequently arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed marijuana cigarette and a clear plastic bag of marijuana on Mr. Young's person. Mr. Young was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 1:30 am, TFC Evans responded to the 48000 block of Compass Circle in Lexington Park. TFC Evans arrested Kenneth Eugene King, 24, of Lexington Park on an outstanding Bench Warrant for Failing to Appear / Driving While Suspended. Mr. King was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 1:55 am, TFC Koch responded to the 21000 block of Chancellors Run Road in Great Mills. TFC Koch arrested Jennifer Jo Tharpe, 23, of Great Mills on an outstanding Bench Warrant for Violation of Probation / possession of CDS. Ms. Tharpe was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center in Leonardtown pending a bond review.
