Government Closings, MTA Changes for Christmas, New Year Holiday


SOUTHERN MARYLAND - Local government closings and schedule changes, as well as MTA bus route changes, for the 2006 holiday season have been announced and are printed below.

CHARLES COUNTY

The offices of Charles County Government and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, Maryland, will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2006, for the Christmas holiday, and Monday, January 1, 2007, for the New Year’s holiday.

The Charles County Landfill, Recycling Center, and Composting Facility on Billingsley Road East, Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center, off Route 425 in Pisgah, will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2006, and on Monday, January 1, 2007.

The every-other-week curbside recycling collection and weekly yard waste collection services schedule will be as follows: Monday “B” will be served on Tuesday, December 26, and Tuesday “B” will be served on Wednesday, December 27.

CALVERT COUNTY

Transportation: Transportation will operate a normal Saturday schedule on December 23 and December 30. We will be closed on December 25 and January 1 and operate normal schedules on December 26 and January 2.

Solid Waste: The Appeal Landfill, Mt. Hope, and Barstow Compactor Sites will be closing at 4:00pm on Sunday, December 24. The Appeal Landfill and all Compactor Sites will be closed on Christmas, December 25, and all will re-open on December 26 for normal business hours.

The Appeal Landfill, Mt. Hope, and Barstow Compactor Sites will be open for regular business hours on December 31. All will be closed on January 1 and will re-open on January 2 for regular business hours.

Office on Aging: All centers will be closed for the holiday weekend (December 23-25) and will re-open on December 26. They will also be closed for the New Years Eve weekend as well (December 30-January 1) and will re-open on January 2.

Calvert Libraries: All Calvert Libraries will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 25-26 and will re-open on Wednesday, December 27. All Calvert Libraries will be closed on January 1. (all Calvert Libraries are normally closed on Sundays).

ST. MARY'S COUNTY

St. Mary’s County Government Offices will be closed for business on Monday, December 25, 2006, and Tuesday, December 26, 2006, in observance of the Christmas holiday, and all County offices will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2007, New Years Day. County offices will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the dates mentioned.

St. Mary’s County Libraries will be closed Sunday, December 24, 2006, through Tuesday, December 26, 2006, in observance of the Christmas holiday, and the libraries will be closed Sunday December 31, 2006, and Monday January 1, 2007, in observance of the New Year. The libraries will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the dates mentioned.

The St. Andrews Landfill and six (6) Convenience Centers and the St. Mary’s Transit (STS) bus service will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2006, and Monday, January 1, 2006, in observance of Christmas and New Years Day, respectively. The STS, landfill and convenience centers will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the dates mentioned. Please call St. Mary’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation at (301) 863-8400 for additional information about the landfill, convenience centers, or the STS bus service.

MTA BUS ROUTES

On Friday, Dec 22, 2006, the MTA will operate an amended schedule.

The MTA expects many patrons will choose to leave work early and have therefore modified many of the bus schedules for Dec 22nd in an effort to accommodate an anticipated early rush.

All morning service will operate as per normal schedule. The following changes will be implemented on the afternoon of Fri, Dec 22nd. Please note that the 300 & 400 services into Baltimore will operate as regularly scheduled.

Route 901, Trip #43, #47 & #52 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run the mid-day trip (trip # 27), 2 buses will run trip # 28 & 2 buses will run trip # 29. Trip #29A will make regularly scheduled stops and trip #29B will terminate at Smallwood Village Center.

Route 902, Trip #27 & #30 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run the mid-day trip (trip #17) & 2 buses will run on the first PM trip (trip #18).

Route 903 - NO changes (will operate regular Service).

Route 904, Trip #19 & #21 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run the mid-day trip (trip #13) & 2 buses will run on the first PM trip (trip #14). Trip #14A will terminate at Pindell & trip #14B will continue onto North Beach.

Route 905, Trip #36, #39 & #41 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run the mid-day trip (trip #22), 2 buses will run trip #23, & 2 buses will run trip #24. Trip #23A will terminate at Charlotte Hall & Trip #23B will continue onto California.

Route 907 - NO changes (will operate regular Service).

Route 909 - NO changes (will operate regular Service).

Route 913 - NO changes (will operate regular Service).

Route 915, Trip #16 will NOT operate as scheduled. Instead, it will depart M & 9th Sts. @ 1:40 & will serve the same stops as trip #10.

Route 921 - NO changes (will operate regular Service).

Route 922, Trip #16 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run Trip #10. Trip #10A will serve Truman P&R and Kent Island. Trip #10B will serve Truman P&R, West St. & will continue on to Kent Island, if necessary.

Route 929, Trips #22 & #26 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run the #17 trip & 2 buses will run the #18 trip.

Route 950, Trip #17, #23 & #25 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will depart from Virginia Ave. & E St. @ 2:00 P.M. Trip A will serve Truman P&R and Kent Island. Trip B will serve Truman P&R, West St. & will continue on to Kent Island, if necessary. In addition, 2 buses will run trip #14. Trip #14A will serve Truman P&R and Kent Island. Trip #14B will serve Truman P&R, West St. & will continue on to Kent Island, if necessary.

Route 991, Trip #22 & #24 will NOT operate. Instead, 2 buses will run trip #13 & 2 buses will run trip #14. Trip #14A will terminate at Monocacy & trip #14B will continue onto Hagerstown.

Route 995, Trip #23 & #26 will operate 3 hours earlier than scheduled, departing 19th & M streets at 1:45 P.M. and 2:30 P.M. – making all stops.
