Waldorf Accident Sends Teens to Hospital


LA PLATA, Md. - According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 7 at 1:10 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Smallwood Drive West and St. Nicholas Drive in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Their investigation revealed that a 1996 Buick Regal was traveling east on Smallwood Drive West when it failed to stop at a red light and struck a 1999 Ford Windstar proceeding northbound on St. Nicholas Drive through a green light.

The driver of the Windstar, James Joseph Vitek, 47, of San Antonio, Texas, was not injured. The driver of the Buick, a 16-year-old Waldorf boy, and his passengers, an 18-year-old Waldorf girl and an unidentified teenage male, sustained incapacitating but non-life-threatening injuries.

The boys were transported by a United States Park Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center and the girl was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to MedStar at Washington Hospital Center.

No charges have been filed.

Officers closed the roadways briefly for the investigation.
