HUGHESVILLE, Md. - Ten lucky animals were adopted from the Tri-County Animal Shelter during its November 11 open house to celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.
More than 200 people attended the event that featured childrens activities, crafts, drawings for baskets of cat and dog supplies, and more.
Other highlights of the day included: animals available for adoption from the Animal Relief Fund of St. Mary's County; pet first aid demonstrations by the American Red Cross, Southern Maryland Chapter; distribution of information on the new Last Chance Animal Rescue spay and neuter clinic in Waldorf; and free samples of dog cookies from the Laughing Dog Eatery.
"We also want to thank everyone who purchased T-shirts and calendars, which resulted in over $150 in donations for the animals at the Shelter," said Animal Shelter Supervisor Kim Stephens.
