Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: Sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nov. 19, suspect(s) entered a residence in the 300 block of Barksdale Avenue in Waldorf through an unlocked window. The suspect(s) stole three handguns, change and a backpack and fled the scene. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777. Officer R. Brooks is investigating.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD: On Nov. 18 at 5:33 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Best Buy located at 11725 Berry Road in Waldorf for the report of credit card fraud. Investigation revealed Emily Louise Cook-Gilner, 22, of no fixed address, attempted to purchase merchandise with a counterfeit credit card. Detectives responded, contacted the issuing bank and discovered the credit card number was not valid. Cook-Gilner, her husband, Steven Anthony Gilner, 24, of no fixed address and Roy Lee Sosna, 23, of Las Vegas were arrested. Cook-Gilner was charged with credit card fraud and two counts of theft scheme valued at more than $500. Gilner was charged with theft valued at more than $500 and Sosna was charged with conspiracy to commit theft valued at more than $500 and theft valued at more than $500. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Det. B. Buchanan is investigating.

ASSAULT: On Nov. 18 at 3 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Hamlin Road in Waldorf for the report of an assault with a knife. Investigation revealed Christopher Dale Buchanan, 18, of La Plata and Sean Francis McLaughlin, 37, of Waldorf sustained lacerations to their arms during a fight between each other. Buchanan was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center and McLaughlin was treated on the scene by emergency medical services personnel. Both were arrested and charged with first-degree assault. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer R. Anderson investigated.

SCHOOL BUS CRASH: On Nov. 17 at 3:55 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 200 block of Charles Street in La Plata for the report of a school bus crash. Investigation revealed a St. Mary’s Ryken High School bus driven by Robert Benjamin Good, 70, of Swan Point was turning right from westbound Charles Street onto Washington Avenue when the left side of the back of the bus struck the right side of a Ford Taurus stopped at a red light. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The driver of the Tarus, Robert Norman Tillett, 81, of La Plata, the 12 students on the bus and Good were not injured. Officer R. Taylor of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
