LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH INVOLVING BICYCLIST: On Nov. 2 at 3:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 1000 block of Wales Drive in La Plata for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist. Investigation revealed the bicyclist, an 11-year-old La Plata girl, was riding her bicycle in a driveway near her home. She left the driveway and crossed the path of a Toyota Rav 4, which subsequently struck her. The girl was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. with non-life-threatening injuries. She was released from the hospital on Nov. 3. She was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the Toyota, Linda Marie Curry, 48, of La Plata, was not injured and remained at the scene. She is not at fault and will not be charged. Officer R. Glover of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED: On Nov. 1 at 11:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Carlson and La Plata Town Police Officer M. Payne conducted a traffic stop in the 6600 block of Crain Highway in La Plata because the driver appeared to be intoxicated. After the officers confirmed the driver was intoxicated, Officer J. Clagett attempted to arrest him but he resisted. After a brief struggle, he was subdued and arrested. He was identified as Jacob Lance Kirby, 26, of Marbury and charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Kirby was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer J. Clagett investigated.
