Kim Stephens, Supervisor of the Tri-County Animal Shelter (Center), joins employees of the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' as they make a stop in Charles County to rescue some homeless dogs and puppies.
HUGHESVILLE, Md. - Eight dogs and puppies awoke at dawn on Thursday, September 28, 2006, to be loaded onto the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' for a ride to a Rhode Island shelter. These homeless pets got a second chance because a shelter in Rhode Island has the space to hold these animals until they find a new home.
The Petsmart Charities Rescue Waggin' now also visits the Tri-County Animal Shelter once a month to pick up at least 10 dogs and puppies. By participating in this program the Tri-County Animal Shelter hopes to save over 200 dogs and puppies next year.PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' is a pet transport program that transports dogs from areas of high pet overpopulation to shelters in areas where adoptable dogs are in demand. The program was created to help save the lives of homeless dogs and puppies through partnership and collaboration with local animal welfare agencies. PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' expects to save the lives of up to 8,000 pets annually.
