Annual Test of the Emergency Siren System Set for Noon Mon., Nov. 6

LUSBY, Md. Constellation Energy Group's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant will conduct a 3-minute full sounding test of the emergency response sirens at 12:00 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2006. The tests will be conducted in conjunction with the affected County governments.

The full system test is a regularly scheduled maintenance event to ensure all 73 sirens activate. Seventeen of those sirens are in St. Mary's County. This capability assists local officials in supporting each other in the event of an emergency at Calvert Cliffs and aids in notifying the public of adverse weather, such as hurricanes or tornadoes. The annual full-cycle test occurs at noon on the first Monday in November.

Anyone who hears a full 3-minute siren at any time other than the scheduled full cycle test should tune in to a local Emergency Alert System radio station, television or cable company for emergency instructions.

For additional information, contact the St. Mary's County Department of Public Safety during business hours at 301-475-4200 option 6.
