St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department today released the following incidents and arrest reports.

Kareta McGowan, age 30 of California, Maryland, was arrested by Deputy Shawn Carberry for Child Abuse and Second Degree Assault. The undisclosed victim was being assisted with schoolwork, when the Suspect became mad and utilized a broom stick to strike the juvenile victim across the head. The victim suffered a "golf ball" size contusion. Suspect McGowan was arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center.

Jeffrey Wayne Hyde, age 29 of Mechanicsville, was arrested and charged with Violation of a Protective Order. Deputies responded to a Hollywood, Maryland home to find that the Suspect had made threats to the victim, in violation of a Protective Order. A search incident to arrest revealed a crack cocaine smoking device. Deputy James Stone was the arresting Deputy.

Deputy Shawn Carberry charged Charles Webster Sommerville, age 26 of Hollywood, Md., on a Criminal Summons through Washington County, Hagerstown, Maryland with possession of Cocaine, Marijuana and possession of a Handgun.

William Edward King, age 32 of Lexington Park, was arrested on an open warrant by Deputy Michael Peacher. The warrant was related to an assault.

Thomas Leroy Taylor, age 47, was arrested for Violation of a Protective Order by Deputy Michael Harrison.
