Drug Arrests By Charles County MSP


LA PLATA, Md. - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police today released the following incident reports regarding recent drug arrests in Charles County.

On October 11, 2006 at 1030 hours, Trooper R. Hill was working stationary laser speed enforcement on northbound Route 5, north of Gallant Green Road, Hughesville, Md. He observed a teal passenger vehicle in lane 2 traveling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. The observed reading on the laser unit was 66 miles per hour in a posted 40 miles per hour zone.

Trooper Hill directed the operator of the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle stopped abruptly. Trooper Hill observed the driver making furtive movements. When Hill approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of burning marijuana emitting from within the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Jasmine Monique Tillery, 28 years of Lexington Park. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed the following: two partially smoked CDS marijuana cigarettes that were recovered from the ashtray; 1 empty pink plastic “dime” baggie and 1 blue plastic “dime” baggies containing trace amount of CDs marijuana; and one corn cob style smoking pipe containing suspected burnt marijuana residue.

Ms. Tillery was placed under arrested and was taken to the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. Ms. Tillery was charged with possessing a controlled dangerous substance of schedule I, to wit: marijuana, did possess with the intend to use drug paraphernalia, to wit: 2 partially smoked marijuana cigarettes, 1 pink plastic baggie, 1 blue plastic baggie, 1 corn cob style smoking pipe containing suspected burnt CDS marijuana residue, use to pack, store, contain, inhale, introduce into the human body by smoking, a controlled dangerous substance of Schedule I, to wit: marijuana.

On October 15, 2006 at 0130 hours, TFC C. Stevenson initiated a traffic stop for an inoperable head light at U. S. Route 301 at Jefferson Farm Place Waldorf, Md. Upon contacting the driver, Shanai Sade Brown, 19 years of Waldorf, TFC Stevenson detected an odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.

TFC Stevenson informed Ms. Brown that he detected the odor and asked her to disclose the location of the marijuana. Mrs. Brown surrendered one plastic baggie of marijuana (3.5g). Ms. Brown was placed under arrested and a search incident to arrest yielded 1 tablet of Ecstasy.

She was taken to the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. Ms. Brown was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of CDS-not marijuana.

On October 15, 2006 at 2027 hours, Trooper J. Wiersma  responded to a personal injury accident on westbound Maryland Route 228 at Mill Hill Road. During the initial medical evaluation, Trooper Wiersma observed the edge of a plastic baggie protruding from operator’s sock. The operator was identified as Thomas Lemont Corbett, 40 years of Oxon Hill. Two baggies of “Crack” cocaine (5.4 gram) and one hand rolled “joint” containing marijuana (.5 grams) were recovered from Corbett's sock.

Mr. Corbett was transported to Fort Washington Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

On October 16, 2006 at 1416 hours, Trooper First Class L. Hewitt had responded to the Home Depot Store in Waldorf. The Barrack had received several calls over the course of several days from an anonymous caller.  The caller had indicated that they were aware of an individual who was in possession of PCP and traveled with PCP in his vehicle. The subject was identified as Michael Eugene Hughes, 42 years of Hughesville.

Trooper First Class Hewitt located the vehicle. TFC Hewitt noticed that the registration plate was displaying an expired 2005 sticker in violation of the Maryland Transportation Article. The vehicle departed from the store.  TFC Hewitt followed and observed the vehicle until sufficient assistance could arrive. Once TFC Hewitt had back-up on the scene, he initiated a traffic stop.

Contact was made with the driver, Frederick Cox, 32 years of Virginia. A check through Virginia Motor Vehicle Administration revealed Cox was suspended in Virginia three times. The front seat passenger identified himself at Michael Eugene Hughes.

Cox was informed as to why he was stopped. Cox gave consent to TFC Hewitt to search the vehicle. The subsequent search revealed a clear glass bottle sitting in the center console containing a yellowish liquid.

Hughes was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (PCP). He was taken to the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review. Hughes was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance of schedule III, to wit PCP.
