LA PLATA, Md. - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT ARRESTS: On Oct. 19 at 1:17 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft that had just occurred in the 3000 block of Pilgrim Square in Waldorf. As officers were responding, police communications officers broadcast a lookout for a green Honda Accord. Cpl. R. Leukhardt observed the vehicle traveling north on Crain Highway at a high rate of speed. It was accompanied by a gray Honda. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the green Honda on Crain Highway near Earnshaw Road in Prince Georges County. The gray Honda, which investigators determined later was also stolen, continued on and was later located with the suspect still inside of the vehicle. Both of the Honda drivers were arrested and charged with auto theft. They are identified as Miguel Angel Zalaya, 22, of Arlington, Va., and Francisco Javier Mejia, 19, of Langley Park. Officers on the scene at Pilgrim Square located a third Honda, which had been stolen from Prince Georges County. Investigators believe the accused were traveling in this vehicle prior to stealing the green Honda. Det. C. Baker investigated.
ATTEMPTED MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT: On Oct. 19 at 1:14 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 19500 block of Lariat Place in Waldorf for the report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. Investigation revealed the victim, a 20-year-old Waldorf man, heard his vehicles alarm, went to the front door to investigate and observed three suspects tampering with the vehicle. As the victim exited his front door, the suspects fled to a vehicle parked nearby. One of the suspects fired a shot at the victim, which struck the interior of the home. The suspects fired two more rounds, which struck a vehicle parked at another residence, and fled the scene. They are described as black males wearing all black clothing and black Northface jackets. The vehicle is described as a dark blue Nissan Maxima with no hubcaps. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriffs Office at 301-932-7777. Officer D. STRONG ARM ROBBERY: On Oct. 18 at 10:56 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 3400 block of Rockefeller Court in Waldorf for the report of a strong arm robbery. Investigation revealed the victim, a 19-year-old Waldorf man, was walking home when he was approached by the suspect in the area of Route 925 and Acton Lane. The suspect and victim had a conversation and walked to the area of Huntington Circle, where the suspect took the victims cell phone and made phone calls without permission. The suspect demanded money and drugs and searched the victims pants pockets. The suspect took cash from the victim and fled the scene. The suspect is described as a dark-complexioned black male in his mid-20s with short hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a black shirt.
