MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 10:58 am, TFC Linger stopped a vehicle for failing to drive in a single lane on Golden Beach Road in Charlotte Hall. Upon contact with the driver, Justin William Hudson, 28, of Mechanicsville, marijuana was observed on the back seat. During a probable cause search, a metal smoking device, containing burnt marijuana, was located in the center console. Mr. Hudson was arrested and transported to the Leonardtown Barrack where he was issued a criminal citation for possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was released to a family member.

On Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 10:30 am, TFC Linger stopped a vehicle for speeding on Route 235 at Hermanville Road in Park Hall. Upon conversation with the driver, Shaun Gabriel Odell, 31, of Lexington Park, a prescription bottle was observed in the cup holder. On inspection of the bottle, no label was found. Upon opening the bottle an odor of marijuana was detected. Inside were several pills, each containing different identification numbers. Mr. Odell was placed under arrest. During the search of the vehicle, a plastic bag containing marijuana was located in the center console. Mr. Odell was taken to the detention center, charged with possession of marijuana, possessing an unknown controlled dangerous substance of an unknown substance, and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was held pending a bond review.

On Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 11:55 pm, Tpr. McCartney attempted to stop a vehicle for failing to stop at the stop sign on Lincoln Avenue at Route 235, Lexington Park. The driver, later identified as Dwight Alvin Smith, 46, of Great Mills, increased his speed and drove into a field near South Coral Place. Mr. Smith exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Tpr. McCartney caught up to Mr. Smith and attempted to place him under arrest. Mr. Smith failed to comply with all orders. After utilizing pepper spray, Mr. Smith was arrested and handcuffed. A check through MVA indicated Mr. Smith’s privilege to drive was suspended and revoked. He was taken to the detention center and charged with resisting arrest, DUI, and numerous other traffic offenses. He was held pending a bond review.

On Monday, October 16, 2006 at 8:28 pm, Tpr. Shughart responded to Beechville Road, St. Inigoes, for a reported assault. Investigation revealed the victim and Crystal Cecilia Fenwick, 25, of Lexington Park were arguing over a cell phone when Ms. Fenwick went into the kitchen, obtained a knife and held it to the victim’s throat, causing a small laceration. When the victim attempted to get away, Ms. Fenwick cut her in the back of the neck causing a larger laceration. The victim refused medical attention. Ms. Fenwick was arrested and charged with 2nd degree assault. She was taken to the detention center and held pending a bond review.

On Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 1:38 am, TFC Grimes stopped a vehicle for having an inoperable tag light on Route 5 at Hilton Ridge Drive in Leonardtown. Upon contact with the driver, Maxwell Copeland Schneider, 18, of Bethesda MD, an odor of burnt marijuana was detected. Located during a probable cause search were; a small plastic bag, a metal can, and a metal sifter, all containing marijuana. Mr. Schneider was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was taken to the detention center and held pending a bond review.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 10:25 am, TFC Moore arrested Steven C. Knight, 28, of Kirkwood NY, on an outstanding Bench Warrant for failing to appear in court for a driving on an out of state license while suspended charge. He was taken to the detention center and held without bail.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 2:57 pm, Tpr. Shughart was contacted by a subject who advised that he was attending classes at the College of Southern Maryland, Leonardtown Campus, between 12:00 pm and 2:40 pm. When he arrived back to his vehicle the “Papa John’s” sign was stolen from the top of his vehicle. Estimate loss value: $90.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 1:40 pm, TFC Moore arrested Joshua David Diehl, 19, of Mechanicsville, on an outstanding Bench Warrant for failing to appear in court for a driving while suspended charge. He was taken to the detention center and held without bail.
