NORTH BEACH, Md. - On Friday, October 13 at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police, Barrack "U", Prince Frederick, were called to a home just beyond the North Beach town limits for an assault.
At the scene, a victim and witnesses reported to Sgt. Ronald V. Naughton, of the Calvert Investigative Team, that two stabbings had taken place. One of the victims, John Burchinal, 22, of North Beach, was having a party at his home when two unidentified males arrived uninvited. An argument ensued between the victim and the two males. One of the uninvited males then punched another party guest in the face. It was at this time that Burchinal stepped in to try to stop the fight. One of the males subsequently stabbed Burchinal in the left thigh. The same male then stabbed another party guest, a juvenile, in the chest area.
The two unidentified men then fled the scene in a dark colored vehicle. A lookout was broadcast, but the vehicle could not be located. However, several witnesses have provided police with additional information about the suspects.
Mr. Burchinal was treated on the scene by members of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department for his injuries. The juvenile victim was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he was treated for life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
