BURGLARY: On Oct. 10 at 6:31 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Arthur Middleton Elementary School located at 1109 Copley Avenue in Waldorf for the burglary report. Investigation revealed suspects shattered two windows and gained entry into the school. Once inside, they stole a guinea pig, turtle, hamster, four acrylic insect molds, candy, an AM/FM radio and a digital camera from a kindergarten classroom and then fled the scene. Through their investigation, officers identified the suspects as two Waldorf boys, ages 12 and 13. Officers recovered the animals, however the guinea pig had sustained a fatal injury after being attacked by a dog. The insect molds and the radio were also recovered; the candy and the digital camera were not. The boys were each charged with second-degree burglary, destruction of property and theft valued at less than $500. Officer J. Marti investigated.
FLEEING POLICE: On Oct. 7 at 9:40 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs Officer D. Behm was traveling south on Crain Highway in Faulkner when he observed a northbound vehicle flashing its headlights. The vehicle turned and proceeded south on Crain Highway, where Officer Behm attempted to stop it but the vehicle did not stop. While fleeing, the vehicle struck a couch that was left on the side of Crain Highway. The driver slowed the vehicle, exited it while it was moving and attempted to flee. Officer Behm quickly apprehended the driver and identified him as Maverick Lowell Savoy, 44, of Newburg. Investigation revealed he was intoxicated and his license was suspended. He was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and fleeing and eluding on foot. Savoy was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending his appearance before the district court commissioner.
DRUG ARREST: On Oct. 6 at 7:01 a.m., the Charles County Sheriffs Office Community Policing Unit (COPS), Emergency Services Team (EST), Vice detectives and a K9 team executed a search warrant regarding a drug investigation at a residence in the 11500 block of Hornbeam Court in Waldorf. Officers recovered a large quantity of marijuana, which has a street value of $6,000, drug paraphernalia, ecstasy pills, digital scales and a loaded rifle. A temporary tag, which was reported stolen from Waldorf Ford on June 26, was also recovered. Cpl. R. Cuylers K9 partner conducted a scan of a vehicle parked in front of the residence and additional drugs were recovered. As a result of the investigation, Jeremiah Ronald Pearson, 19, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of ecstasy, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft valued at less than $500; Nicolia Denise Pearson, 25, Monica Shartese Haws, 25, Andrew Eli Anderson, 26, and Ivan Lorenta Stewart, 24, were charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia; and Marissa Nicole Maddox, 18, Dennis Elsworth Copper, 21, and Dejuan Tracy Hart, 20, were charged with possession of marijuana. The accused, who all reside in Waldorf, were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
