ASSAULT: On Oct. 2 at 10:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the 4000 block of Bluebird Drive in Waldorf for the report of a fight. Investigation revealed the victim, a 31-year-old Waldorf man, was riding his bicycle when he was approached by three suspects who ordered him to the ground. The victim attempted to flee the scene and one the suspects shot him several times with a BB gun. The suspects fled the scene in a 1995 blue Chevrolet Cavalier displaying Washington, D.C. tags. Officers observed the Cavalier on Dunlin Court and attempted to stop it. The suspects exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot into a wooded area. Officers, including a K9 team, conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspects. The suspects were described only as two black males and a black female. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and refused medical treatment. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. J. Elliot at 301-609-6515.
HOME INVASION: On Sept. 30 at 11:29 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 11800 block of Oak Manor Drive in Waldorf for the report of a home invasion. Investigation revealed the suspects knocked on the victims door and as he opened the door, the suspects forced their way inside the residence. The suspects stole the victims wallet and fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The victim, a 65-year-old Waldorf man, was uninjured. Both suspects are described as muscular black males, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing all black clothing. They did not display any weapons. FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH: On Sept. 30 at 6:15 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the 6600 block of Rose Hill Road in La Plata for the report of a motorcycle crash. Investigation revealed the operator of a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle, Paul Lester Zanko, 49, of Nanjemoy, was traveling south on Rose Hill Road when he lost control, crossed the center line, left the road and struck a ditch. The motorcycle traveled along the ditch approximately 140 feet before Zanko and his passenger, Lenene Star Bradley, 32, of Indian Head, were ejected. Zanko was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Bradley was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince Georges Hospital Center and is listed in serious condition. Cpl. R. Padgett of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
ASSAULT: On Sept. 30 at 1:19 a.m., a 20-year-old Clinton man was inside the Thai Seafood Restaurant located at 2732 Crain Highway in Waldorf when he became involved in an altercation with Jose Maria Echibarria, 27, of Waldorf. Echibarria stabbed the victim in the lower body and fled the restaurant. Numerous patrons of the restaurant chased Echibarria across the parking lot to the shoulder of Crain Highway where they began to fight. Cpl. Clark was traveling south on Crain Highway when he observed the large crowd. As he arrived on the scene, the crowd dispersed and Echibarria was left lying on the ground. After an investigation determined Echibarria stabbed the victim, Echibarria was arrested and charged with first degree assault. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. The victim was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury. Officer M. Kennedy investigated.
MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Sept. 27 at 6:44 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 2200 block of Hopkins Court in Waldorf for the report of a vehicle that struck a home. Investigation revealed a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Richard James Gray, III, 22, of Waldorf was driving behind a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander sport-utility vehicle driven by Britney Nicole Thornton, 19, of Waldorf. As the SUV was making a left turn from Wakefield Circle onto Hopkins Court, the Cavalier attempted to pass it on the left side. The Cavalier struck the SUV, left the roadway, struck a pole, traveled up a yard and struck the house on Hopkins Court, coming to rest approximately 2½ feet inside a bedroom in the residence. The occupants of the residence were not home at the time and neither driver was injured. Gray was issued three citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, passing on a double-yellow line and unsafe lane changing. Officer J. Kelly investigated.
BURGLARY: Sometime between 1 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Sept. 22, suspect(s) forced entry into Bunker Hill Inn located at 9800 Bunker Hill Road in Waldorf and stole a large quantity of alcohol and cigarettes.
