SCHOOL BUS CRASH: On Sept. 28 at 3:32 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Charles Street and Olivers Shop Road in Charlotte Hall for the report of a school bus crash. Investigation revealed a school bus with 30 members of the St. Marys Ryken football team driven by Gerald Dwight Sewell, 55, of Prince Frederick, was traveling west on Charles Street when a 1999 Mack dump truck traveling east crossed the center double-yellow line. The outside mirror of the truck struck the outside mirror of the school bus. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The driver of the dump truck, Robert William Dixon, 42, of White Plains, Sewell and the passengers on the school bus were not injured. Officer R. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
SCHOOL BUS CRASH: On Sept. 28 at 9:11 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to Woodville Road near Woodmont Lane in Waldorf for the report of a school bus crash. Investigation revealed Charles County School bus #137 driven by Robin Louise Wals, 48, of Charlotte Hall was traveling north on Woodville Road enroute to Malcolm Elementary School with 21 children. A Keller commuter bus was traveling south on Woodville Road when it slightly crossed the center double-yellow line. The outside mirror of the Keller bus struck the outside mirror of the school bus. The school bus stopped at the scene, the Keller bus did not. The school bus had minor damage to its mirror and none of the students were injured. The students were transferred to another bus and taken to school. The driver of the Keller bus was later identified as Walter H. Johnson, 48, of Benedict. Officer R. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
