St. Mary Sheriff's Office, on 09-28-2006 at 1608 hours Gloria L. Stone age 56 of Mechanicsville, St. Mary's County Maryland was stopped on North Sandgates Road at the intersection of Northbound Route 235. Driver Stone attempted to cross northbound Rte 235 to the median crossover, but failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle. Driver Stone was driving a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser and was struck by a northbound 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by Marcia A. Lohr age 53 of Alexandria, Virginia, in lane-one of Rte 235.
Driver Stone was pronounced dead on the scene from her injuries by emergency medical personnel. Driver Lohr received incapacitating injuries and flown to Prince Georges Trauma Center by MSP Trooper 7. No contributing circumstances were uncovered on the part of Driver Lohr. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
