BURGLARY: Sometime between 11 p.m. Sept. 25 and 5:30 a.m. Sept. 26, suspect(s) broke the locks on several construction storage sheds at Theodore G. Davis Middle School located at 2500 Davis Road in Waldorf, which is currently under construction. The suspect(s) stole large quantities of copper wire spools, copper fittings and piping and miscellaneous tools. The suspect(s) also stole and fled the scene in a 1985 green Ford F-350 flatbed truck displaying Maryland tags 90E424. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. D. RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE: On Sept. 25 at 9:09 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs Office received information from On-Star regarding the location of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle, a 2004 GMC Denali, which had been reported stolen to the La Plata Town Police at 6:30 a.m. that day, was reported to be on Cardinal Drive off of Ripley Road in Ripley. Officers observed the SUV leave Cardinal Drive at a high rate of speed and continue onto Ripley Road toward Poorhouse Road. Officers pursued the SUV and as it rounded a curve they observed the SUV run off the roadway, strike a culvert and come to rest in an area of brush. The driver was ejected and fled the scene on foot into the wooded area on Ripley Road. Cpl. R. Leukhardt and his K9 partner tracked the suspect and quickly apprehended him. The driver, a 44-year-old La Plata man, was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to the trauma unit of Prince Georges Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Charges by the Sheriffs Office and Town Police are pending. Officer P. Kirk is investigating.
MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Sept. 24 at 2:53 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the parking lot of St. Charles Town Plaza in Waldorf for the motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed Stephanie Lashaun Barber, 23, of Waldorf and Thurston Lyles Hall, 32, of Waldorf, were arguing when Barber jumped onto the hood of Halls vehicle. Hall then drove around the parking lot at a high rate of speed, causing Barber to fall off, and fled the scene. Officers located Hall a short time later and discovered he was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. Barber was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to the Washington Hospital Centers Medstar Unit with non-life-threatening injuries. Hall was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer K. Evans investigated.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT: On Sept. 23 at 10:15 p.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to a residence in the 4300 block of Rock Court in Waldorf for the domestic dispute. Investigation revealed the victim, a 25-year-old Waldorf man, was assaulted by a 42-year-old Waldorf man with whom he resides. As officers were attempting to arrest the suspect he resisted and a struggle ensued during which he assaulted and spit at the officers. After officers placed the suspect in a cruiser, he shattered one of the cruisers rear windows. He was charged with three counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and destruction of property valued more than $500 and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
ATTEMPTED MURDER: On Sept. 23 at 2:33 a.m., Charles County Sheriffs officers responded to the 3000 block of Gallery Place in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. Investigation revealed the victim, a 22-year-old Indian Head man, was involved in an altercation with a group of male suspects when he was shot in the upper body. The victim was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later listed in stable condition in an intensive care unit. This incident does not appear to be random. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. C. Bean at 301-609-6504.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On Sept. 21 at 3:15 p.m., Officer R. Kimble conducted a traffic stop at White Oak Drive and Substation Road in Waldorf. Investigation revealed Jerry Wayne Corbin, Jr., 21, of Waldorf was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Corbin was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
CONCEALED DEADLY WEAPON: On Sept. 15 at 7 p.m., Officer N. Beswick and Officer J. Vaino were working a security assignment for the Charles County Fair located on Fairgrounds Road in La Plata when they observed a large crowd forming and preparing to fight. While officers were dispersing the crowd they received information about a 16-year-old Cobb Island boy who was in possession of brass knuckles. They located the boy and found him to be in possession of brass knuckles. He was escorted from the fair and barred for the weekend. On Sept. 22, Officer Beswick charged the boy with being in possession of a concealed deadly weapon. He was released to the custody of his mother.
