Two Teens Charged for Bringing Loaded Handgun to Thomas Stone HS

Teen brought gun to school for protection against individuals who threatened him

On Sept. 25 at 1:50 p.m., an administrator at Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf received information about a handgun in the school. The administrator contacted the school’s juvenile intervention officer. The officer's investigation revealed that a student, Devin Albert Philyaw, 16, of Hughesville, had been threatened by individuals from another county and brought the gun to school for protection. Philyaw gave the handgun to another student, Antonio Corneillus Porter, 16, of Waldorf, for safe keeping.

Officer Hood and school administrators quickly recovered the handgun and a loaded magazine from Porter. Both Philyaw and Porter were arrested and charged as adults with carrying or wearing a deadly weapon on school property and carrying or wearing a concealed deadly weapon.

The gun was registered to Philyaw’s father. Both were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
